Walking to settlements takes too much time.
The campaign map is just too big to have an arbitrary number of conquer 8 settlements around the World / or befriend them. 
And late game campaigns turn into an auto resolver.
Even the best dark elves late game armies couldn't deal with a 1v1 autoresolve. In the end I was swimming in a 10k+ profit per turn with 150k+ warchest. 
Even the best buildings are kind of lame. The building/province system in the game is way too easy. If I spend more time managing settlements than fighting, I might as well play a building simulator or Europa Universalis 4, which I love.
I enjoy fighting tactical battles instead of managing a HUGE empire. No matter what I would need to go into the new world to conquer Kislev or the magic tree. The victory condition, even the short one, was painfully long. I was literally fighting the entire world except a Tomb King and Skaven enclave. So they declared war on me, and the bad-guys alliance was losting. I was at war with about 10 factions, including dwarves. Enemies sending endless stacks to fight you (High Elves and Empire in particular). Playing on Hard/hard, I managed to take out the upper left quadrant of the map owning about 10+ provinces. Lately I have been playing a Dark Elf campaign in Mortal Empire up to 200 turns but I had to abandon it due to fatigue. I am pretty new to Warhammer 2 and Warhammer 1, but a veteran of the series in general having played since Medieval 1. Think we missed one?
